Styled Session // the book lover // fairfax portrait photographer

What is a bookshelf other than a treasure chest for a curious mind?

Disappearing into a book is one of my earliest, sweetest memories.  Books make me happy.  I know there are many fellow bibliophiles out there who love books and dream of giant libraries.  Last week, my husband and I took our kids to see the new Beauty and the Beast film.  The library scene captures my heart every time!  For a styled session, it is awesome to incorporate something you love.  I knew it would be fun to shoot a book-themed styled session with Miss Reagan.

the Book Lover

I brought in baskets and baskets of books.  These are some of my favorite titles, many full of strong female leads.  Books like Lirael, Cranford, Station Eleven, and The Elegance of a Hedgehogthe ones you don’t forget.

Reagn’s delicate pale blue dress is a nod to Alice in Wonderland, along with the little vintage rose oil painting.  We also had a wonderful hair and makeup artist come in and give her finishing touches.  Big, dramatic hair and just a little soft makeup for theatrical effect gives us the full picture.  Plus, makeovers are a really fun bonding experience for Mom and Daughter!

I wanted her to be cozy because that is essential for a good read.  So we piled up pillows and soft rugs.  Now she is ready to travel the world with the maps and story time adventures.

We are obsessed with this stunning handmade mask that came to us all the way from Latvia.  The details are beautiful and rich.  Reagan brings the cute mischievous kitten to life!

Reagan really used her imagination.  This is the joy of a styled shoot.

What could you and your child create together?

How would she transform?

What story can we help you tell?
